In June/July I had the privilege and honor to go to Katmai National Park & Preserve in Alaska to visit and photograph the bears. I was invited to stay in the cabins with friends, Theresa and Cindy, who are frequent visitors. I began educating myself by watching explore.com and talking with Theresa (who has written a book on the bears of Katmai) about how to identify the different bears. During that time, I was introduced to Otis…and I fell in love. Cindy (a big Otis fan) also related tales of Otis. Strong, level-headed, a diplomat but not to be messed with. Right before leaving on my fantastic adventure, Theresa informed me that Otis was not in “his office” yet. Oh No!!!…and Theresa told me she wished she had never mentioned Otis…but Hallelujah!, the day we were flying into Alaska, Otis appeared. I will be doing a series of oil and watercolor paintings based on my photographs from this magical place. Of course, my first painting had to be of beloved Otis, the King. This is a framed oil painting on board of Otis…Enjoy!
